What’s actually inside the Clinical Aromatherapy Certificiation?
"475 hours" is a number, not an answer. When people ask us what's in the certification, what they usually mean is: what will I be able to do at the end of this that I can't do now?
So here's the whole thing, in the order you'll meet it.
Phase 1. Foundation.
What aromatherapy is and why it's built the way it is. History, sustainability, why plants produce essential oils in the first place, extraction methods, and the psychology of scent. This is the part that reframes oils from products into plant chemistry.
Phase 2. The oils.
75+ essential oil profiles. Each one covers the emotional, subtle, physiological and therapeutic picture and the chemical constituents. That both/and structure is deliberate and it's built into every single profile, not bolted on at the end. Plus carrier oils, hydrolats, blending, notes, a recipe toolkit and how-to videos.
Phase 3. Real people.
Where it stops being theoretical. Expanded application across pregnancy, elderly clients, cancer care, babies and children.
Two assignments live here. First a safety and knowledge quiz, which we added after noticing a pattern in where students were struggling. It's a checkpoint to make sure the safety fundamentals are solid before anyone starts clinical practice, and since we introduced it we've seen safer blends and faster student progress.
Then written mock case studies. This is the assignment most students describe as the moment it clicked.
Phase 4. The science.
Plant families, chemistry, AromaPharmacokinetics. The chemistry ID exercise and quiz sit here. This is the section people dread and then regularly score in the 90s on.
Phase 5. Creating and energetics.
Skincare, facial oils, clays, subtle aromatherapy, and the business and labelling side. The assignment is a video of you actually making a blend or a product, because there's a difference between describing a formulation and making one.
Phase 6. Practitioner level.
Thirty live case studies with real people. A research paper on a topic you choose. Final exam. Graduation.
Running alongside all of it: the full Anatomy & Physiology module. All 15 body systems, each one related back to aromatherapy rather than taught in isolation.
The things that aren't on the syllabus
Every case study is marked by Rachael or Nikki personally. Not a teaching assistant, not an algorithm.
There are no extra textbooks to buy. It's all included.
You have up to two years, a suggested six-month and one-year timeline if you want the structure, and an extension available if life happens. Average completion is about 13 months.
Downloadable written materials are yours for life.
Students are in over 50 countries, and the study groups that form in the Facebook community have a habit of outlasting graduation. Dr. Kenneth Wallace started an international one during his course that's still going.
What you walk away with
CFA recognition as a Certified Aromatherapy Health Professional (CAHP) and NAHA Level 3 Certified Clinical Aromatherapist. The certification exam is $150 and is written once your case studies and assignments are complete.
But the thing graduates actually mention is smaller than that. It's the first time a client comes back and says something shifted. It's sending an invoice without it feeling strange.
