Soothing Solutions: Essential Oils for Constipation, Diarrhea, and Gas

Whether dealing with constipation, diarrhea, gas, or cramping, there are certain oils that can provide relief and restore balance to the digestive system. In this blog post, I will explore how specific essential oils can help with various digestive issues and share some tips on how to incorporate them into your wellness routine.

Essential Oils for Constipation

Constipation can be a frustrating and uncomfortable issue to deal with, but certain essential oils can help stimulate bowel movements and alleviate symptoms. Peppermint oil is known for its ability to relax the muscles of the digestive tract, which can help promote regularity and ease constipation.

Ginger oil is another excellent option for relieving constipation. Its warming properties can help stimulate digestion and reduce bloating and gas.

Fennel oil is also beneficial for constipation due to its carminative properties, which can help reduce gas and bloating.

With any of these oils you can use them individually, or mix them together to make a synergy and get the benefits of each of the essential oils. You can add a 8 total drops of one or more of the essential oil to about a tablespoon of carrier oil and half a cup of Epsom salt for a soothing bath. Add 4 to 6 total drops to 10 ml of carrier oil for an abdominal massage. Massage the oil a clockwise motion to encourage bowel movement. Alternatively, inhaling the aroma of ginger oil can also help calm the stomach and promote healthy digestion. Making a personal inhaler and adding 10 total drops of essential oils and take 3 deep breaths when needed.

Essential Oils for Diarrhea

Dealing with diarrhea can be unpleasant and disruptive, but certain essential oils can help soothe the digestive system and alleviate symptoms. Chamomile oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and calming properties, making it an excellent choice for relieving diarrhea. You can inhale the aroma of chamomile oil or dilute it with a carrier oil and apply it topically to help reduce inflammation and promote healthy digestion.

Lavender oil is another great option for managing diarrhea. Its gentle and soothing properties can help relax the digestive system and reduce cramping and discomfort. Add a few drops of lavender oil to a diffuser or add to a cotton pad and inhale deeply to experience its calming effects on the stomach.

Peppermint oil, in addition to aiding in constipation, can also be helpful for diarrhea. Its cooling and anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe the digestive tract and reduce symptoms of diarrhea. Mix a few drops of peppermint oil with a jojoba oil and massage it onto your abdomen to ease discomfort and promote healthy digestion.

Essential Oils for Gas and Cramping

Gas and cramping are common digestive issues that can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Fortunately, certain essential oils can help alleviate these symptoms and promote digestive wellness. Lemon oil is known for its detoxifying properties, which can help reduce gas and bloating. Inhale lemon to help calm the body and digestive system, or mix it with one of the following essential oils and massage it into your abdomen to help ease discomfort. Remember to only use a maximum of 4 drops per 10 ml to avoid phototoxicity.

Cardamom oil is another excellent choice for relieving gas and cramping. Its carminative properties can help reduce gas and bloating, while its antispasmodic effects can help ease cramping. Mix a few drops of cardamom oil with a carrier oil and massage it onto your abdomen to experience its soothing benefits.

Patchouli oil is also effective in relieving gas and cramping due to its calming and anti-inflammatory properties. Inhale the aroma of patchouli oil or dilute it with a carrier oil and apply it topically to help reduce discomfort and promote healthy digestion.

You can create your own master blend by selecting a one or two oils from each section. Then you can mix 4 to 6 drops into 10ml of carrier oil of choice such as sweet almond oil or jojoba oil to make a roller bottle blend for on the go. Keeping it in your pocket, purse, or in the bathroom so you have it handy whenever the need arises. When you gotta go, you gotta go…but let essential oils help ease the digestive track and restore balance quickly.
